At Erda, ten women collaborate to bring into being the off the wall ideas that Patricia Dowse generates. In a difficult market, they have established a distinctive identity by using vivid, texture-rich fabrics, exotic deerskin, and sculptural shapes. Patti started making deerskin bags in 1971, first for herself, then for friends, on the kitchen table. Drawing on input from as many minds as possible, they’ve added structure (zippers, pockets, functionality) that embodies the spirit of Erda in a fresh, more up-to-date form.
