Matthew Yanchuk
Matthew uses simple forms, which he makes by slip-casting, he then applies graphic designs so that they work with the forms in a harmonious collaboration. When painting the surfaces of the work, either by direct handpainting or a process of layering with wax-resist, hr finds that the shapes dictate how the pattern moves on a piece. Each shape is a challenge in finding the right combination in the pattern that will work with the shape. The patterns that are incorporate into the pieces are gathered from Matthew's interest in Mimbres pottery and textile design. Vivid colors with bold patterns evolve with every new piece or idea that he brings to the creative process.
